How to recognize a fake card

Where the card was purchased

If the card was bought in a reputable store and unpacked from boosters, it must be genuine. Therefore, it is recommended to buy cards only from reliable stores.

 The size of the card

The size of the card matters. Fake cards have a sometimes different length than real cards. When in doubt, compare the questionable card with a card already tested and guaranteed. If their size does not match, the card is fake.

The colour of the card

The colour of fake cards is often not a perfect match with the originals. However, if the card under the test is placed face up and compared with the cards guaranteed to be real, it is possible to spot the fake ones depending on the distinction.

The font of the card

Copies of cards sometimes have a different font. Another way to find out the validity of a card is by comparing it with the real ones, and if they do not have the same font, then the compared card is fake.

The images on the card

When it comes to the images, the foil surface of the cards is difficult to copy identically. Most people creating fake cards cannot recreate this and do not have the equipment to create identical surfaces of the replicas.

The replicas are also not made from as quality paper as the real ones. By shining light through the cards, you can check their authenticity. The actual card is barely translucent, while the fake one lets some of the light passes through it.

 Examination

Some cards are perfectly faked to the point that they require an in-depth and professional examination. These counterfeit cards are passed around worldwide and are something to look out for to ensure complete authentication.
